Unpacking History One Discovery at a Time
Location: Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kansas
Immer was the adopted father of my adopted mother’s father. Now tell me that ain’t a mouthful. My mother was born Wanita Maurine Riggle. (The spelling later became Juanita Maureen). Her father was Paul Shaylor Dickinson Riggle. His father, Webb Dickinson, died young and Paul was adopted by Immer Riggle (probably informally) when Ida Dickinson married Immer. They came to Independence in 1909. Immer worked for Standard Oil and Paul tried his hand at hunting for the Dalton Gang‘s hidden treasure. More on that story next time.
